Preventive Sealants

Home > Services > Preventive Sealants

Sealants are a plastic-like coating that is flowed into the "pit's and fissures" of posterior teeth to help prevent decay. Most often done on permanent molars but can also be done on primary molars. They are quick and easy and require no anesthetic.

They can last for years but occassionally may need to be touched up or replaced depending on bite pressure and diet.  Sealants are checked regularly at every appointment.

The procedure involves cleaning and drying the chewing surfaces of the teeth.  A gel is placed to help adhere the sealant material to the tooth.  The sealant material is placed into the grooves and hardened with a light. The bite is checked to ensure adhesion and proper fit.
